Lummis journal series papers, 1880-1928 / Chas. F. Lummis. 1880-1928.

The Journal Series is one series in the Charles F. Lummis Manuscript Collection and is comprised of typed transcriptions of Lummis' diaries but include more indepth information and begin with the "Week as Was" covering 1880's events and anniversaries through 1900, then there are scattered weekly journals until February 18, 1908 when the daily journals start, although they are filled by the week through to November 1928. Lummis also included the "Lummis Round Robin" which is correspondence from family and friends as it relates to the weekly journals.

Charles F. Lummis (1859-1928) was born in Lynn, Massachusettts. He became an editor for the Los Angeles Times on February 1, 1884, working for Harrison Gray Otis. He promoted interest in the American Southwest with his photography and articles. Lummis helped found the Southwest Museum in Los Angeles and the School of American Research in Santa Fe.
